Tamworth (NH) - Christmas Carol Rag, an original musical, will be presented by The Barnstormers Theatre from Thursday, Dec. 22 through Saturday, Dec. 31. This light-hearted take on the classic tale was written by Norman Allen (with apologies to Charles Dickens), and won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Musical in 2002. It retains many of the original elements of A Christmas Carol, but a fresh perspective has been added. Instead of old Ebenezer in Victorian England, we are introduced to Mrs. Evelyn Scrooge, who runs a sweatshop in New York City during the early 1900s. Filled with ragtime classics and traditional Christmas music, the score by Howard Breitbart includes some lovely old tunes that fit very well into the story. The play is directed by Barnstormers producing artistic director Clayton Phillips and features a cast from near and far, including many Barnstormer favorites and some very talented local children. Vinette Cotter will play Scrooge and other locals include Jean Mar Brown, Bob Bates, Penny Purcell, and young newcomers to the Barnstormers stage David Fulton, Jeanne Puglisi, Rachel Sitomer, Grace Harte and Bailey Staples. Most performances are at 7 p.m., but there are matinee performances on December 23, 24 and 31. Christmas Carol Rag is a joyous holiday treat that celebrates the season and is perfect entertainment for the whole family.
Adult tickets for Christmas Carol Rag are priced at $25 in the orchestra and $20 in the balcony, while tickets for children are $20 in the orchestra and $15 in the balcony.
