2024 PAST PERFORMANCES

Pride and Prejudice

Kate Hamill, adapted from the novel by Jane Austen, Comedy

August 22 – 31

Directed by Blair Hundertmark

Sponsored by
The Carl E. and Dorothy M. Lindblade
Family Fund

Bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools…than the high-stakes game of love? This adaptation is incredibly fresh, and well-suited to audiences of all ages. It moves fast, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. G Rating

Go Back for Murder

Agatha Christie, Murder Mystery

August 8 – 17

Directed by Jordan Reeves

Sponsored by Atlantic Pool & Spa

After receiving a letter from beyond the grave, Carla Crale believes her mother, who died in prison, was wrongly convicted of her father’s murder. In a passionate attempt to clear her name, she persuades those present on the day of her father’s death to return to the scene of the crime and ‘go back’ 15 years to recount their version of events. An unusual take on the traditional murder mystery, the action of the play slips seamlessly from past to present, examining the danger of relying on personal testimony warped by time, prejudice and perception. By studying each suspect’s testimony, and the various inconsistencies between them, the drama arrives at a disturbing and terrible truth.

Into the Breeches!

George Brant,  Comedy

July 25 – August 3

Directed by Sarah Rozene

Sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire

Oberon Play House’s director and leading men are off at war with the Axis. Determined to press on, the director’s wife sets out to produce an all-female version of Shakespeare’s Henriad, assembling an increasingly unexpected team united in desire, if not actual theatre experience.

Together they deliver a delightful celebration of collaboration and persistence when the show must go on! Playwright George Brant’s concept for the comedy is both clever and creative. Into the Breeches is a gentle, amusing story that sometimes verges on silly or even mildly slapstick. G Rating

Educating Rita

Willy Russell, Comedy

July 11 – 20

Directed by Dori Robinson

Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and bury himself in his books. Enter Rita, a forthright 26 year-old hairdresser who is eager to learn. After weeks of cajoling, Rita slowly wins over the very hesitant Frank with her innate insight and refusal to accept no for an answer. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms, ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. The play became a hit film with Michael Caine and Julie Walters. Willy Russell’s play is very English — a bit Pygmalion, a good dose of comedy about social classes, and a lot of irresistible force meeting immovable object. PG Rating

Camelot

Lerner & Loewe, Classic Broadway Musical

June 27 – July 6 (no performance July 4)

Directed by Clayton Phillips

Sponsored by The Woodshed Restaurant, Moultonborough

“Director Clayton Phillips captures a perfect tone of hopefulness and good cheer but also shows a deft hand with the more dramatic material and finds a perfect balance between the two.”
“Vocally, the whole cast is a knockout, with music director Michael Ursua guiding the cast beautifully. McNeel’s voice in particular is stunning.”
“The set by Eli Singer and costumes by Alison Pugh successfully help transport the audience to another time and place.”

An idealistic young King Arthur hopes to create a kingdom built on honor and dignity, embodied by his Knights of The Round Table. His Ideals, however, are tested when his lovely queen, Guenevere, falls in love with the young Knight, Lancelot, and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance. Borrowing from the Arthurian legends, Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot is the duo’s fantastical masterpiece which triumphed on Broadway in a legendary original production that led to a film version, and numerous revivals in New York, London and across the globe. Its Original Broadway Cast Album topped the charts for 60 weeks, with a rich score boasting such gems as “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “I Loved You Once in Silence,” “The Lusty Month of May,” and of course, “Camelot.” G Rating

The Barnstormers Theatre

The Barnstormers, located in the scenic village of Tamworth, NH, is one of the longest-running professional summer theatres in the country.

The company was founded in 1931 by Francis Cleveland, the youngest son of President Grover Cleveland, Francis’s wife Alice and their friend Ed Goodnow – all of whom were involved with theatre on Broadway.  Over eighty years later, their legacy continues.

Today, The Barnstormers is one of three Equity theatres in New Hampshire and provides the region with brilliant summer theatre.

Like most theatres nationwide, ticket sales cover only about half of income needs, so every gift to The Barnstormers is greatly appreciated.
